Er bestaat geen twijfel meer over de grote blootstelling van gezondheidswerkers aan ongevallen met naalden en injectiespuiten. Zij vormen immers een belangrijke risicogroep, aangezien zij hun dagelijkse inspanningen verdubbelen om hun patiënten te verzorgen, of dat nu in een pandemische periode is of niet.

Het aantal patiënten met chronische wonden in België wordt geschat op meer dan 300.000 (Martinengo, et al., 2019). De prevalentie van moeilijk te genezen wonden wordt geschat op 150.000 per jaar (Avontroodt, 2006). Bij 10% van de patiënten in rust- en verzorgingstehuizen in België ontstaat er een chronische wond.

However, legal, accreditation, digital, and reimbursement barriers still limit homecare development in Belgium.

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed how quickly hospital capacity can become overwhelmed, delaying standard care. Highly specialized homecare enables treatments such as dialysis and oxygen therapy to continue safely outside hospitals, often improving quality and patient autonomy. Clear regulation, accreditation, digital support, and adequate reimbursement are essential to fully realize homecare’s value in delivering efficient, value-based healthcare.
